Fordyce spots (Latin: glandulae sebaceae ectopicae) are small, pale or yellowish papules — enlarged sebaceous glands without ducts opening into hair follicles. They most commonly occur on the labia, penis, scrotum or oral mucosa.
They are completely benign and non-contagious. They are not a sexually transmitted infection or a precancerous lesion. However, because of their location and appearance, they may cause concern or aesthetic discomfort, prompting patients to seek removal.
