What does the Aptos thread procedure involve?
Aptos is a system of biodegradable barbed threads which, once placed in the tissue, anchor themselves and support the structure of the intimate tissues. In the intimate area, the threads may reinforce the vaginal walls and support the urethra. As the material is absorbed, it stimulates the production of new collagen, which may prolong the tissue-tightening effect.
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia. Its duration and scope depend on the individual indications discussed during the qualification consultation.
The use of Aptos threads for intimate-area revitalisation is a procedure for which the available clinical evidence is limited. The data are based mainly on observational studies and case series. Claims regarding an effect on stress urinary incontinence require individual medical assessment. The procedure may only be considered in cases of mild stress urinary incontinence, after other causes and conditions requiring different treatment have been excluded. Moderate or severe urinary incontinence requires a urogynaecological assessment and a different treatment approach. Outcomes vary between patients and may differ considerably.
Who may consider this procedure?
The procedure may be considered by women who:
- experience a loss of vaginal tissue tone and elasticity associated with ageing, childbirth or hormonal changes,
- have mild stress urinary incontinence and wish to discuss non-surgical supportive options following medical assessment and the exclusion of other causes,
- are looking for a complementary treatment alongside other aesthetic gynaecology procedures,
- are in good health and have realistic expectations regarding the extent and duration of the results.
The procedure is not indicated in cases of moderate or severe urinary incontinence, genital cancer or active infection. The doctor assesses the indications individually during the consultation.

- blood-clotting disorders or the use of potent anticoagulant medication,
- moderate or severe urinary incontinence requiring urogynaecological diagnosis and a different treatment approach,
- unrealistic expectations regarding the scope of the results.
How is the procedure performed?
The doctor takes a medical history, assesses the indications and possible contraindications, and discusses expectations and risks. If urinary incontinence is reported, its severity and type are assessed.
Local anaesthesia is administered before the procedure to reduce discomfort while the threads are being inserted.
The doctor places the threads in the planned areas of the intimate tissues. The threads anchor themselves and support the tissue structure.
The doctor provides individual instructions regarding activity, hygiene and observation. The patient returns home on the same day.
Results and duration
Increased tension of the intimate tissues may be noticeable after the procedure. As the threads are absorbed and collagen production is stimulated, the effect may last from several months to over a year. However, the duration varies between patients and depends on individual predispositions, metabolic rate and lifestyle. In patients reporting urinary incontinence, the urethral support effect is variable and cannot be guaranteed. The procedure does not stop the tissue-ageing process.
Recovery
Mild discomfort, swelling or tenderness may occur in the treatment area after the procedure and usually subside within several days. Post-procedure recommendations include:
- avoiding strenuous physical activity for the period recommended by the doctor,
- avoiding hot baths and saunas,
- avoiding sexual activity for 2–4 weeks,
- contacting the clinic if concerning symptoms occur, such as persistent swelling, discharge or fever.

What risks are associated with Aptos thread treatment in the intimate area?
Possible adverse effects include temporary discomfort, swelling and tenderness. Less commonly, infection at the treatment site, asymmetry, palpable threads or thread displacement may occur. In rare cases, dyspareunia — pain during sexual intercourse — or a haematoma may develop. The doctor discusses the full risk profile individually during the qualification consultation.
Do Aptos threads treat urinary incontinence?
The procedure may provide support in cases of mild stress urinary incontinence by reinforcing support for the urethra. However, it is not a treatment for moderate or severe urinary incontinence or for incontinence caused by other mechanisms, such as urgency, mixed or neurological incontinence. Before qualification, the doctor assesses the type and severity of the problem. Urinary incontinence requiring more advanced treatment needs a urogynaecological assessment.
How long do the results last?
The duration of the results varies between patients and depends on individual predispositions, the rate at which the material is metabolised and lifestyle. The biodegradable threads are absorbed over several months while stimulating collagen production. The tissue-tightening effect may last from several months to over a year after the procedure.
When can sexual activity be resumed?
Sexual activity should be avoided for 2–4 weeks after the procedure. The doctor determines the exact period of abstinence individually following the procedure.
How do Aptos threads differ from O-Shot or hyaluronic-acid revitalisation?
O-Shot uses PRP — platelet-rich plasma — injected around the clitoris and into the anterior vaginal wall, with the primary aim of revitalising and regenerating the tissues. Hyaluronic-acid revitalisation of the labia addresses loss of volume and moisture. Aptos threads act mechanically by anchoring and supporting the tissues and may also reinforce urethral support.
