Erectile dysfunction affects every third man over the age of 40 — and very often has an identifiable cause that can be treated. At Wyspa Medycyny Przyjaznej, we diagnose the problem, not just the symptoms.
The first step is a urology consultation or an andrology consultation — the doctor will assess the cause and suggest the next steps.
Erectile dysfunction, formerly called impotence, is difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for satisfying sexual intercourse, lasting for at least several weeks. It is one of the most common urological problems in men — it is estimated to affect 30–40% of men over the age of 40 to varying degrees, and more than half of men over 60.
Erectile dysfunction is not a reason for shame and not a life sentence. In most cases, it has an identifiable cause — vascular, hormonal, neurological, medication-related or psychological — and may be treated or significantly improved with proper diagnostics.
If these symptoms recur for several weeks and affect quality of life, it is worth discussing them with a urologist or andrologist — especially because they may be an early signal of systemic disease.
Erectile dysfunction and the heart. Vascular erection problems may precede symptoms of cardiovascular disease by several years. A urologist pays attention to this during the consultation and, if needed, refers the patient to the appropriate specialist.
We start with a conversation — detailed, unhurried and without judgment. The doctor takes a medical history, assesses risk factors and matches diagnostics and treatment to the specific case.
Diagnostics
The starting point. Medical history, assessment of general health, discussion of possible causes and next steps.

An aesthetic urology procedure considered in selected patients after urological qualification. It is not a first-line method for everyone.

Book a consultation — the doctor will assess the cause and suggest the best pathway. Discretion guaranteed.
In many cases, significant improvement or complete resolution of symptoms is possible — it depends on the cause. Psychogenic erectile dysfunction often responds well to psychotherapy. Vascular and hormonal erectile dysfunction requires targeted treatment. The urologist assesses the prognosis individually after diagnostics.
Yes. Vascular erectile dysfunction may be an early signal of coronary artery disease, hypertension or diabetes — sometimes preceding other symptoms by several years. That is why it is worth examining the problem rather than waiting.
The doctor takes a detailed history: duration of the problem, chronic diseases, medications and lifestyle. If needed, the doctor orders tests such as testosterone level, lipid profile, blood glucose and penile Doppler ultrasound. The first visit is a conversation, not a procedure.
A urology consultation covers broad urinary and genital health problems. An andrology consultation focuses on male sexual health — erections, libido, fertility and hormones. In erectile dysfunction, we often start with a urology or andrology consultation — the doctor will suggest which pathway is appropriate.
PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil and tadalafil are an effective class of medications for many men — but they have contraindications, interact with heart medications and do not treat the underlying cause. The urologist will assess whether they are the right choice and at what dose.
B-Shot with botulinum toxin and P-Shot with platelet-rich plasma are aesthetic urology procedures considered in selected patients after a full urology consultation. They are not suitable for everyone — the choice depends on the individual case and the doctor’s assessment.
