When should you see a urologist?

A urology consultation is recommended for any symptoms involving the urinary and genital system in men. It is worth booking a visit in case of:

  • difficulty or pain when urinating, frequent urination, urgency,
  • blood in urine (hematuria) - always requires urgent diagnostics,
  • pain or discomfort around the kidneys, bladder, perineum, scrotum or penis,
  • changes on the penis or scrotum - lumps, skin lesions, asymmetry,
  • problems with erection or ejaculation,
  • sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) - diagnosis and treatment,
  • PSA check and assessment of the prostate gland,
  • planning a urological procedure or follow-up after a procedure,
  • male infertility - andrological diagnostics.

Alarm symptoms requiring an urgent visit: blood in urine, sudden urinary retention, severe kidney or lower back pain, swelling or pain of the scrotum - in such cases, contact the clinic immediately or go to the emergency department.

What does a urology consultation involve?

The visit is intended to gather a full picture of symptoms and establish a management plan. It includes:

  • Medical history - the urologist asks about symptoms, their severity and duration, medical history, medications, lifestyle and risk factors.
  • Physical examination - depending on the symptoms, it may include assessment of the genital organs, prostate examination (per rectum) and abdominal examination.
  • Imaging tests (ultrasound) - if needed, ultrasound of the urinary tract, prostate, scrotum or penis is performed during the visit. The examination helps assess organs more precisely.
  • Laboratory tests - the doctor may order urine tests, PSA, semen analysis or other tests depending on indications.
  • Discussion of results and treatment plan - the doctor presents diagnostic conclusions, explains possible causes of symptoms and discusses available treatment options.

What conditions does a urologist treat?

At the clinic, we diagnose and treat diseases of the male urinary and genital system, including:

  • Prostate - benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis, PSA diagnostics, prostate cancer - initial assessment,
  • Urinary tract - urinary tract infections, kidney stones, hematuria, overactive bladder,
  • Scrotum and testicles - varicocele, cysts, epididymitis, lumps,
  • Penis - phimosis, frenulum breve, Peyronie's disease, penile skin lesions, Fordyce spots, pearly penile papules,
  • Andrology - erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorders, infertility diagnostics,
