When should you book a dermatologist appointment?
A dermatology consultation is recommended for any problems involving the skin, hair or nails in both children and adults. It is worth booking an appointment when:
- a rash, redness, itching or blisters of unknown cause appear,
- acne does not respond to over-the-counter products or leaves scars,
- the skin is dry, flaky and prone to inflammation, which may suggest atopic dermatitis or psoriasis,
- you experience hives, swelling or symptoms that may have an allergic cause,
- a mole or pigmented lesion has changed shape, colour or size, or a new one has appeared,
- you have skin lesions in the intimate area requiring venereological diagnostics,
- your child has recurrent skin problems such as itching, rash or inflammatory lesions,
- you would like a preventive mole examination with dermoscopy.

What happens during a dermatology consultation?
The appointment includes several stages that allow the doctor to obtain a complete picture and plan further management:
- Medical history — the doctor asks about symptoms, their duration and course, medicines and products used, previous test results, accompanying conditions and family history.
- Skin examination — a visual assessment of the lesions, their nature, extent and location. If necessary, the dermatologist performs dermoscopy using a dermatoscope, which makes it possible to view the structure of the lesion under magnification.
- Discussion of findings and treatment plan — the doctor explains possible causes, discusses the diagnosis and proposes management such as medication, skin-care recommendations, further diagnostics or a procedure.

From consultation to treatment — comprehensive care at one clinic
A dermatology consultation may be the first step towards complete diagnosis and treatment. If further action is required, there is no need to search for another facility:
- Dermoscopy of moles — if detailed magnified assessment is indicated during the consultation, Katarzyna Przekazińska-Boager, MD, performs a dermoscopic examination in the consulting room or schedules a separate diagnostic appointment.
- Removal of a skin lesion — if excision is required, the clinic performs surgical removal of skin lesions, including epidermoid cysts, lipomas, moles and proctological lesions.
- Histopathological examination — every removed lesion may be sent to a pathologist for histopathological examination to confirm or exclude a malignant nature.

A graduate of the Medical University of Gdańsk (2008). She completed specialist training in dermatology and venereology at the Dermatology Department of the Regional Specialist Hospital in Elbląg (2010–2015), followed by allergology training at the University Clinical Centre in Gdańsk. She sees both children and adults.

What happens if a lesion needs removal or histopathological examination?
If the doctor decides that a lesion requires surgical verification, you will be referred for skin lesion removal, a surgical procedure performed at the same clinic. The removed tissue may be sent to a pathologist for histopathological examination. The entire process takes place at Wyspa Medycyny Przyjaznej.
